Funeral Services

Always a difficult part of people’s lives, the Funeral of a loved one has to be handled with care.

Chosen nearly always by the Funeral Director, who will match the family with the most appropriate Celebrant, the Celebrant’s skill is to create a service around the deceased person’s life, and will always take into account the wishes of the family.

Focusing on everything that made them unique, the service allows friends and relatives to celebrate the life of the person they have just lost.
Sometimes a person’s life or beliefs illustrate the fact that they may feel it more appropriate to have their service created by an Independent Celebrant, rather than one based on dogma or religion.
There are no “set rules” for these “Celebrations of Life” services. The Celebrant together with family, friends and participants will create exactly the service you want.
The benefit of using a member of the Association of Independent Celebrants is that we have well trained people from many different backgrounds, experts in creating non religious, semi religious, new age or holistic funeral services.

Picture of a line of trees in autumn on a misty day Our first step is meeting the family at a most difficult and stressful time. Handling this first meeting demands patience and understanding and being a good listener. These special skills or gifts are essential in Celebrants, because our job is to support, recommend and advise, not to dictate. This we can only do after meeting the family and considering all suitable options.

Armed with a wide range of poems, readings, yes often from the bible, or an appropriate writer or philosopher, the “Independant Celebrant” designs the words based on the individual, and guides the family with tact and care through the final funeral experience. Remember, amongst the mourners there may be people with beliefs not matching those of the deceased, so attention is taken to respect all present as far as possible.
