Joining the AOIC

Membership of the AIOC

The AOIC warmly welcomes new members at all times and is open to those who meet the following criteria:-

A) Those Celebrants already practising and experienced in conducting Ceremonies
This can include; a practising Celebrant (6 months experience+). Registrar or Member of Clergy OR who have undertaken other recognised training courses.
You will be asked to provide the contact details of:
(i) Professional/Institute (i.e. Funeral Director) Two professional organisations (i.e. Funeral Director. Wedding Event Organiser) for whom can confirm you have conducted Ceremonies for them on a regular basis.
(ii) Two couples or families for whom you have conducted ceremonies (i.e. wedding/civil partnership, baby naming)
(iii) Details of all relevant training courses you have completed together with copies of Certificates appertaining to those courses.
(iv) Two full service scripts you have written yourself.

B) Those who have successfully completed the AOIC's Foundation Certificate in Funeral Celebrancy UK College of Celebrancy Foundation Certificate in Funeral Celebrancy, Wedding, Civil Partnership, Baby Naming Celebrancy.
You will be asked to supply
(i) Copy of your course Certificate
(ii) Two full service scripts you have written yourself
(iii) You will be put in touch with an experienced member celebrant to shadow for a mutually agreed number of family visits and services.

C) You may apply if you have just undergone Celebrancy Training and not yet started work.
You will be asked to supply
(i) Proof of your training course with all relevant certificates.
(ii) You will be put in touch with an experienced member celebrant, who we will ask you to shadow for a mutually agreed number of family visits and services.
(iii) You will he asked to write a full script for 3 of the services you attend with your mentor; these scripts will be submitted to the AOIC committee as part of your membership assessment.

As a Member, you will receive the following:-
To be recognised as a member of a organisation renowned for its professional and trustworthy Celebrants
Each member has liability insurance of £5 million pounds
Advice and support from the President, Committee and  other experienced celebrants
Promotion on the AOIC website or recommendation by the AOIC to any member of public requesting a Celebrant in their area
Regular Newsletters listing information of interest, training opportunities and meeting details, AOIC future plans, members achievements, etc
Access to a Members Forum, giving chance to talk or ask advice from other members
An AOIC Identification Badge
A one year Membership card/certificate
A group voice when lobbying for political change, i.e. current marriage laws
Use of the SAIF Logo on all Celebrant's stationery, and full participation in their activities, e.g. access to their regional meetings. SAIF is the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors.
The comfort of knowing that there are other colleagues out there to help and support you, despite remaining 'independent'!

Fees

A joining fee of £50.00 will be charged to all applicants (other than those trained by the UK College of Celebrancy) to cover expenses, such as registering members, taking up references, assessment of submitted scripts, issuing ID Badges and membership card/certificate.

The current membership subscription is £96 p.a. The amount of subscription charged will be renewed each financial year and should there be any change, this will not take effect until a year from when you joined/last renewed. You will be reminded a month prior to your renewal.

To maintain our required standard, all members will be assessed yearly by submitting 2 scripts they have written themselves.

(iii) Copies of all relevant Certificates
(iv) Contact details of your two referees (if applicable)
(v) Your two written scripts (if applicable)
(vi) Cheque for £50 joining fee made payable to The Association of Independent Celebrants
(vii) Either cheque for £96 subscription made payable to The Association of Independent Celebrants.
Or copy of completed Standing Order Mandate (the original mandate should be handed into your own bank)

Please Note: Members who want to pay by Standing Order need to print one original copy which they take into their own bank AND the second copy to send to Alan Stride (Treasurer) for our records.
